Pacific Teleports International

In March 2010, Internet Niue quadrupled its bandwidth.  Late in 2010, it added extra capacity, using a backup satellite that will protect the island’s Internet connections if services from the existing satellite fail or are disrupted.

The initial increase is coming from Pacific Teleports International, a satellite-based Internet service provider that services the Pacific Islands.  PacTel is also providing software to ensure that critical Internet uses have priority access to the increased capacity, while still allowing peer-to-peer use.
